The Signal Repairing Works at Tyldesley Junction. The image is dated 30/8/56. The location is indicated on the accompanying map. I found this photo among a job lot of hundreds of railway related images. It has stamped on the rear "Office Copy, British Transport Commission, London Midland Region, Civil Engineer's Dept". It took me a good while to work out the identity of the picture. Having done so I believe the image has also been published in the revised edition of "A Lancashire Triangle" on the history of the LNWR in the South Lancashire coalfield.

This is another interesting and well researched photo. It was probably the Signal and Telegraph Dept for the area.
I wonder what's the significance of the Britannia plaque on the gable end. Has anyone any ideas? Maybe someone who worked in S+T Dept or was familiar with the building, which I'm sure would have an interesting history.
