I had tickets 3 times to ride on the APT when staff were being used whilst it was on test.Unfortunately it failed on all three occasions and we never did get to ride it.
I spent two weeks in Derby training on the APT never to see one in full service! What a waste! I did manage to ride it from Preston to Euston Derek, made my missus feel sick.
Well ahead of it's time but unfortunately didn't have proper test tracks to iron things out away from the press etc. That was it's downfall.
The sum total of what I know about trains could quite easily be written on the back of
a penny black in capital letters, so I ask, was the technology that went into the developement of this train the same technology that is currently being utilised in the Virgin Pendolino, ? or am I getting confused with the Inter City 125,? Or were they both one and the same thing ?. Answers on a postcard please.
Another good photo Tom. Always in the right place at the right time. Well done
Ozy. You are right. The technology developed for this train was used by the Italians, perfected and then sold back tp us as Pendolinos. The Inter City 125 (HST) was meant to be a stop-gap diesel version which is still in service, 40 years after being introduced as a prototype in 1972.
