I rember Bolton st well im sure the man in the photo is billy timer he used to race pigons with walt burchall.
Is this the Bolton Street, in Ince, on the left of the road before you reached Darlington Street?. If so my mother Cicely Jackson, as was, was born in this street,in 1911. My grandfather frequented the pub "The Shovel, and Broom", in that era. It was at the top of the street, on the corner, with the main road.
Thought Bolton St was in Scholes my gran lived there, or are there two?
There was a Bolton Street in Ince too, near Clarington Brook. It was Broom Street originally and then was changed to Bolton Street after a local landowner, Emmanuel Bolton. There were also some houses in Caroline Street called Emmanuel Bolton Houses; he was obviously a man of property. There probably WAS a Bolton Street in Scholes.....I know there is a Bolton Square there these days. There were a few duplicated names which were in both Wigan and Ince, some being Chatham Street, Caroline Street and Darlington Street.
I was born in bolton st in 1957 we moved in 1963 I would say this photo was taken late 60s the two houses on the right were knocked down in 1979
Blinking blimey Irene, you're a veritable walking encyclopaedia on Ince aren't you? Am I right, or am I right?
Emmanuel Boltons grave is in Ince In Makerfield Cemetery next to Warrington Road,to the right of the main path and opposite he second chapel. It has a big pink granite memorial
I picked my friend Neil's brains on that one, Eddie....he is the expert on the historical side of things, and I see he has commented too. I just love pics of Ince and have many memories of my own, but Neil is the one with the historical facts.
There was a Bolton St in Scholes. It was immediately opposite the original Longshoot and just before Scholes ended and Whelley started. There was a post office on it's junction with Scholes and a chemist opposite at the junction of Longshoot and Scholes.
Roy Bamber..did you by any chance know Steve Foster.
Maureen I lived in caroline st I rember some fosters over there not sure if there was a steve.
The reason I ask is that Steve is a biker..and I'm sure I've heard him mention a mate of his named Bamber.
Captains log, Stardate 041215. Just spoken to Terry and it appears Mr Bamber is correct regarding the gent in the photo and Albert is correct regarding the hostelry that the gent in question appears to be about to enter. Also, if you're still tuned into this frequency dannyboy, it would appear you've got the right man. It would appear the Pingy was his second home. Signing off. Regards. Eddie.
It was Billy Tymon in the picture.
Roy Bamber:
Do you remember Peter Foster who lived in Caroline Street?
Are you related to Geoff Bamber?

Roy. Did you have relatives that lived in Raven Street, near to the Bird i'th Hand. A family named Bamber's lived next door to my grandmother's, many years ago, I can also recollect a family named Woodwards, who lived close by.
It's a long time since we last met Roy, best part of 50 years at Rosebridge School, I think it was a youth club for lads. I remember a Johnny Bamber as well.
No relation Albert. but I do know the ones stated quite well.
Does anyone remember my great grandad Henry bannister, he lived in Bolton street in Ince, I believe the house he lived in used to be a pub, I would love to know the name of the pub. Henry bannister was a scrap merchant I think, his daughter was pat bannister who was my mums mother Patricia staziker
Does anyone know where Atkinsons Row or Coachmans Row was?
on the 1851 Census the closest street was Broom Street, which reading the thread here became Bolton Street later
Roy Bamber do yo know of Harry Bamber from Derwent Ave.
