The car to the left is a Cortina mk5 in production from 1979-1982. The pub to the right was the Walmsley Arms known locally as the white house, now a gym).
Could well be 1980s.

Is that not the top of Ince Green lane where the Calor gas wagon's just turned into Colin? I'm not from Wigan originally you see.

I don't think this is looking from Stopford Street towards The Squirrel; I think it's looking the other way. The street shown on the left near the car is Pickup Street, surely? The bus-stop is near the bottom of Belle Green Lane, and is where people would catch the bus to Hindley. The row of shops just past Pickup Street lead to the traffic lights where, if you turned left you would be in Ince Green Lane, outside The Squirrel. You are actually looking TOWARDS Stopford Street from where the camera is.

Yes, I do believe you are correct Irene. My mistake. I can see it now. The street on the left hand side is where Jack Robinson's furniture warehouse is, or was. I didn't take the photo you understand.

The photo is taken from where the Recently demolished Fox pub stood on Manchester Road. We are looking towards Ince Bar.

Those scruffy shop on the lift hand side need pulling down, there a complete eyesore from the bus window.

Free public toilets just on Belle Green lane, used many times by me when I was on coal deliveries. Don't know if we have any left today, if we have, I bet you have to pay to use them.

Did the "photo credit" Terry Lawrenson go in the Pingy around 1980 and would now be in his fifties? Any info gratefully received.

I don't know about that mate, but I'll find out. He's about 55 now, I think he lived in that row of houses on the canal bank just below Rose bridge. He did a stint in the Falklands after the 1982 conflict, building the runways. etc. is that any help? I'll get back to you regarding the other question.
