The Collins’s, invested in new rides to keep up with the demand of the public who wanted bigger and faster thrills. In 1934, they were among the first showmen to order and operate a Waltzer, the 5th to be built by R.J.Lakin Company. Waltzer’s still remain one of the favourite funfair rides of all time, with all ages.
The lads were probably bunking off school, that's why they look smart !
No Horace, young people were well dressed then.
Yes, most, if not all my mates and myself wore suits and ties in the mid-sixties when we were out at the weekend.
Brilliant photo's again Brain, Thank you!!
Ladies as well dave, infact, the 60s was the golden decade for just about everything...a lovely time for dress sence.
I can recall my Dad dressed in a suit and tie and sat on Blackpool beach, that was in the late 60s, imagine that now!
It reminds me of the Fair scenes in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.
Quite a few lads, and lassies enjoyed the caterpillar ride. Quite convenient for a quick smooch. When was the big wheel introduced?
Albert; As a young shool boy, the `softest` ride after The Dragons, was The Caterpillar.
Re the big wheel; see fred foster comment on photo #25308 in Album. Places, Market Sq. page 2 last on 4th row.
looks like my dad jimmy, who did work on fairs when he was younger
What good times always had the safety bar out can't do it today
Great Memories from my youth..Waiting for the girls..
All Wigan Fair pictures bring back great memories and that feeling of excitement when you new it was coming. The Waltzer was my favourite.
In the late sixties and seventies all young men wore suits and ties, that's if you wanted Tap Up anything decent!
