The used bowl got a quick dip in a tub of greasy water, then ready for the next customer. Cannot recollect anybody being any the worse for it. It gave great flavour to the peas. They were delicious.

Wigan Fair - or as usually pronounced "Wiggin Furr". Held every May and October - it was always said Wigan had the biggest Market Square in England - the Fair occupied the whole of it. Butterworth's Black Pea Tent was the name of the black pea "distributor".
