Stuart, is this the pub that was a couple of hundred yards, the Ince Bar side of Raven Street, (that was)? If so, my grandmother would get a big jug of ale from there, put it at the side of her, and then put a red hot poker in it, and it would all steam up. She died in 1950, aged 87years, so she didn't catch any harm by it. I've mentioned this before. She was working in Whitechapel, when Jack the Ripper, was doing his rounds.

Albert, are you our "regular" Albert? Ex-policeman? It's just that I remember an Albert Woodward from Raven Street, which was very near to The Bird I'th Hand. My junior-school friend Christine Shirley lived in Raven Street and I remember it so well.

Aitch, where did you work on Patricroft Road? My brother Colin' s wife, Pat, who I know you remember, worked at The Box- Works down there for a while.

Irene. Yes I am, but I am not a Woodward, I believe they lived next door to my grandmother. She lived in the first house on the right as you entered from Ince Green Lane. Her photograph is under people, (Short Mary).

Also Irene, when my grandmother lived there, there was a toffee shop on the corner of Raven Street. A lady named Lottie owned it.

Irene I worked in the scrapyard as a burner on the wagons, locos and coaches, I was there till I got married in 1966, then later I went back when they moved to Christopher street I went doing the same job again until I was transferred to driving lorries, I was there till we were sold and made redundant in 1983

Thankyou, Albert and Aitch. I love sharing memories with people who remember the Ince of long ago.

Was once outside the pub as a kid asking penny for the guy, when a sailor in full uniform ( they were allowed to travel in uniform in them days) was so worse for drink gave us half a crown . We thought we were millionaires and went straight to Amy's off licence to spend it !.

Also Irene, a neighbour of my grandmother, was a family named Bamber.

I vaguely remember the Bambers, Albert, and I certainly remember Little Amy's off-licence, John......it was in a time-warp even then!

We used to go training on Willy Fosters for Double 7 every Tuesday and Thursday and then go in here for a few pints. My buddy, workmate and team mate Kenny McColl lived just around the corner.

Remember it well from my foot patrol days from lower Ince police station...the only licensee which sticks in my brain to this day was Acton Dottin.
