Following on from previous photos this is Greenall's Crispin Arms, Birkett Bank (as shown on pub sign) circa 1952. I'm leaning on corner of pub wall, my mother is in Birkett Street, diligently "donkeying" the steps to the side entrance (very rarely used but it gave a glorious view up Manchester Road when open). That could be a bottle of milk on extreme left, at the door of no.45 where the Myers family lived. Happy days.

That's the Crispin my great grand father, Alfred Higham, owned, probably from about 1910 to 1940 (no tenant was he). His wife, Catherine, who was born in the Crispin, owned the Princess of Wales in Greenough Street. The stories I could tell !

Hello Mark. I have been doing my family tree for many years and I have recently discovered that Alfred Higham's wife, Catherine Wilkinson, was my 4th. cousin twice removed. Do you have any photos of the Princess of Wales Hotel in Greenough Street? I cannot find any myself.

The Sumner Brewery owned the Crispin, along with other pubs, and in 1930 sold them to Greenall Whitley Brewery. Since your relative was not a Tenant, perhaps he was just a manager.
