The lady surveys the now long gone slag tips of old Ince. I think the picture is taken at the bottom of Holt St, Rose Bridge, but I may be wrong. I remeber as a boy playing on the heaps of slag anf the remains of the old buildings and felled brick chimney at the bottom of Platt Lane, field 1 the Scholes side of the canal and close to Clarrington "Clarry" pond. I remeber catching newts that lived in the ruins which I suppose were quite dangerous as they retained deepish water. Of course you didn't recognise things like that at the time. Anyone know the lady?

there is a certain beauty to this picture which those of today's generation would not appreciate.

Are we sure it's not the Lake District!. She seems enthralled by the scenery.

You may well be right Dave, but it is definitley Ince, and how is your Brian by the way, still doing his fishing.

I'm going to get told off for going off the subject, but I would just like to say Hello Dave Thomas! It was so nice of you to come up to speak to Peter and myself at Pickering; we had a brilliant time! I want to see you in your trilby next year, (I'll let you off the fox-fur and seamed stockings!)

Comment by: Dave Thomas on 20th October 2012 at 17:13

Comment by: josie on 23rd October 2012 at 00:17

there are some bungalows near morrisons but not that near to where slag tip was so i wonder if it is not ince ?

Comment by: irene roberts on 23rd October 2012 at 09:09

The fur is real but the stockings, aquired in a Parisian Lingerie, are actually tights from Wigan Market Hall! You little tinker, Gerry!
