Bird Street,Ince, re-named Lowrie Street for the filming of the 1930s drama,"Liam". Yes, this is a modern photo. (1990s), but it gives an idea of how the area would have looked in the 1930s. The area was chosen because of its authentic cobbled streets. They even had the small dustbins which the bin-men used to carry on their backs to empty before we had wheelie-bins. Although I am originally from Ince, I had no idea this was taking place...I just happened to be there at the right time, dashed into Salter's Chemists for a throwaway camera, and off I went into wonderland....it was magic!

I never saw the drama "Liam" but these pictures are lovely. I particularly like the Bovril advert, which cheekily indicates that if you drink Bovril, you won't get the flu.
By the way Irene, haven't you found my vinegar bottle yet?!

No, Margaret, and I bet you think I've stopped looking but I haven't! I have seen them on a couple of tv programmes; in fact Peter and I watch the repeats of Heartbeat on itv3, and there were some on the tables in the Aidensfield Arms, and I said "Oh look, Margaret's vinegar bottle"! I won't give up!

Margaret..believe it or not, every time we go to Bygone Times(which is quite a few times)I still look for your bottle.

See, Margaret? We haven't forgotten! We'll get you one yet, and we'll be round for fish and chips!

Beltin' shots! Full marks or quick thinking as well Irene.

Thanks ever so much Irene and Maureen. It's very kind of you.
Talking about bygone times, I've just come in from an Elvis tribute concert in New Brighton (it's 11.45 pm) and my old hearthrob P.J. Proby was on. It took me back about 45 years. It was brilliant but I don't know where all those years have gone!

He didn't split his pants this time then, Margaret?!
Dennis, I hoped you's see these pics.I felt like Gary Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart, walking round those "1930s" Ince Streets. I would love to go back to the Ince of my childhood in the 50s and 60s, just for another peep!

Just to go back to Heartbeat Irene, wasn't the 60s a great time, I can watch Heartbeat over and over again. Sadly no more episodes are going to be filmed, but I did prefer the earlier episodes anyway. Oh, better set the DVD for tonights Heatbeat on ITV3....It's nice to hear from you Irene.

Hello John. We've watched Heartbeat being filmed on a few occasions in Goathland, and I too prefer the early ones with Claude Jeremiah Greengrass and Alfred.

Great picture, I hope you don't mind Irene but I thought I would see what the photo looked like as if it were taken in the 30's. So I've re-posted it. Hope you like it

It's Bird Street Josie, read Irene's caption above. You could at one time drive to Bird St, off Manchester Rd.

Margaret..been to Bygone Times this morning...I've looked everywhere again for the vinegar bottle..doin' my head in now..only kidding..will not give in.

Josie, click onto "places" then "market hall indoors", and on page 7 you will see, next to bottom row of pics, a fishmonger with a set of Avery weighing scales, Next to him is a dimpled glass vinegar bottle.....Margaret has been trying to get one like that for ages, and Maureen and I have been looking out in charity shops, antique shops, ironmongers etc.to try to get one for her, but no luck so far.

Would that corner be the one back to back with the Labour club ??
