The Crispin Arms 1955, showing myself, Eric Long and Bernard King. The photo shows us in the "backyard" of the Crispin Arms, its re-building had just started. Some hand dug foundations (no mechanical diggers used in the re-building) are in the foreground. I believe there used to be stables in this area of the pub in its early days.
In the background is Birkett Street and the houses that can be seen are no longer there but those on this side are. Eric's parents had a shop just outside the Wigan/Ince boundary in Manchester Road (close to Jack "Tomorrow's" Chemist shop). Eric attended Hindley and Abram Grammar School, became an accountant and after going to the Mexico World Cup in 1970 married a Mexican lady and lives, I believe, in Mexico City.

Hi Jimmy, glad you got to the Wellfield site. Haven't yet converted old movie film to dvd in order to get decent stills, once I have I'll be putting on more Wellfield stuff.

Perhaps I should have added that for my sins I spent 40 years at "the chalk face" and Bernard was a heating engineer. My father was tenant landlord at the Crispin for 6 very happy years, 1950 to 1956.

Hi Dennis, I've only just come across your comment. I don't think Eric had a brother, to the best of my knowledge he was an only child. He attended Hindley and Abram Grammar School, became an accountant and ended up living in Mexico City with his Mexican wife I believe.
