3 dwellings in this photo, note the headstone in the garden of the right hand house. Apparently, it had the name "Coops" on it, the name of a family that had a mill in Dorning Street.

That position of the gravestone is interesting, you can just see the gable of St Michael's church to the left and where these houses (and now the modern town houses) stand was the site of an ancient church, St Domingo, they recently uncovered part of what was left of the burial ground whilst excavating to build a house on Lord Street.

I witnessed the excavation of the old burial ground, it was really creepy to watch. Thirty years previous, I played on that sight trying to upturn the old gravestones. little did I realise that thirty years on, actual remains would be uncovered there.

This photograph certainly brings back memories.
I believe, the buildings/houses which can be seen in the background are on Duke Street; most of the houses on Duke Street are no longer standing. I would say that Duke Street has changed the most in this area since the forties (last 80 years). Almost all the old terraced houses in Duke Street have been demolished and replaced with more modern housing.
