have you been on free ale again Rob? surely those cottages are no longer there?
is it not the 69 steps?
Sorry probably the way I have written it,I meant still inhabeted when the photo was taken, your right Steve they are now demolished.
Great photo Rob but the cottages weren't there on Sunday when I walked past.
Good photo, Rob.
I've seen a couple of pics that were taken near the bridge at the bottom showing the houses and the rail crossing over the Dougie
It looks a really nice area to live, why where the cottages demolished? what a shame.
I think you will find it is 64 steps, we counted them loads of times when we were kids.
How do I get to these 'steps'; is there anything left?
Gina You can either go down Leylnd Mill Lane and follow the Douggie or go up Green Hill towards Boars Head and look for an opening on the right hand side, which leads to the top of the steps. The area near the bottom of the steps is now a housing estate. Close by there is a house of the Haigh estate with initials EB( Earl of Balcarasse)
hi gina what we classed as the 64steps is called sicklefield and a street sign shows the exact location.it is almost opposite the pathway from greenhill on wigan lane .
could i purchase a copy of this picture please.
This was our wood and land belonging to Sicklefield House to the right as you go down the steps
