There's something both iconic and periodic about this picture. It's not dissimilar to that famous one of the workmen having their tea break on that elevated beam thousands of feet above ground.

Where is this location? I am guessing next to the main line railway in Lower Ince where there is a gloomy tunnel for pedestrians. Westwood power station is on the other side, but only the cooling towers can be seen. In 1971 the railway has no overhead electrification wires.

Mr X When you walked through the tunnel that goes under the WCML. from the Kays houses side, as you come out there was a dirt path on the right that led to the wall. Spent many happy hour train spotting on the wall in the early sixtys. Carry on up the path and you came into james street.
