Bring mi a proper truck and not a big car.

Comment by: John (Howfen) on 29th June 2025 at 13:29

Ozy I never knew you took that photo you must have some collection of wagon photos I think we are due tor a meet up for a bike ride or pint or two with Stuart……I see mick as yet another alias (Df) if you put a chain round his house that merc would have no problem pulling it down.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 29th June 2025 at 13:35

Why don't you look at Barry Greenalls Scammel Crusader, Diesel Fumes, that should be bigger and heavier for you.
You wouldn't want that "big car" as you put it, (Merc) run over you foot would you.

I’ve been meaning to speak with you about bike rides John , an’ I’ve gett’n a cracker lined up fo’ thi , … but my leccy post office bike is only the 12 candlepower basic entry level model .

It was the only one that I could afford on what you paid me , so you’ll need to show a little consideration regarding my progress .

And by the way … don’t be gooin ’ fallin’ off thine same as last time eh ?

There’s a good lad …

… ( thinks ) … bloody nutter !

Comment by: Mick on 29th June 2025 at 18:26

Ozy, my best friend in the world, I gave you a knock and a long, long ring of my bell around 3 pm this afternoon.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 29th June 2025 at 18:27

Got a bit sidetracked there , as my original intention was to comment on the
truck … Apologies .

For the concrete job though , the Fodens and the Mercs were the vehivple of choice .

I do realise that the word vehicle is spelled incorrectly here btw , but this bloody iPad appears to be controlled by Martians , so I’ve decided to leave it in .

If you take the trouble to go to Turkey or visit the Emirates , you’ll discover that there’s very little other than Mercs on the roads out there … now I wonder why that should be ? …

No I bloody well don’t … it’s because they are ultra reliable .

I’ve piloted bigger , heavier , infinitely more comfortable and powerful motors than this one on numerous occasions over the years , but size and power ain’t necessarily the be all and end all is it DF ?

As I feel sure your wife must have informed you on more than one occasion .

Ozy you have a way with words that will take some beating.I haven’t a clue why mick has to be so negative he’s a right ——-k

Sorry about that Mick … my lifelong soulmate , but I’ve been out all day cleaning crap off the streets of Wiggin …

Unrewarded I might add.

I think the council call it “ The Deal “… a brilliant concept initiated by some brain box or other on the council , which roughly translates as me paying them two grand per annum in council tax then doing the soddin’ job misel’ .

God they’re clever .

I must have only missed you by minutes .

But here’s an idea mate , why not try answering yer phone occasionally eh ?

It’s not that I’m being picky or anything … once every Preston guild would be good enough for me .

Comment by: . Ozy . on 29th June 2025 at 20:22

Nah ! … Mick’s awreet actually John .
Give him a chance and you’ll find out that he’s sound .
A bit weird admittedly … but basically sound .

Comment by: Mick on 29th June 2025 at 20:24

We went to the last Preston Guild, but we're not going to the next one.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 29th June 2025 at 22:16

I went to the one in ‘72 Mick , although I missed ‘92 , 2012 and 2022 due to circumstances beyond my control .

I’ll look forward to seeing you at the 2042 event though !

If I’m a bit late turning up , I’ll see you at the bar .
Mine’s a pint of Stella btw .

Thinking about it Ozy that was the best wagon I’ve had P20JHB the Leyland with the TL 11 was good E890VNT but for the pins and bushes on the four spring system at the rear, hey come on now I always paid you what you asked for as reliable drivers where hard to come by but yourself and David Winstanly where a cut above the rest.Have I spelled David’s last name right?

Comment by: . Ozy on 30th June 2025 at 06:56

Just joking with you there John .Yeah , Dave Winstanley’s a really sound lad .
Oddly enough , having never seen him in ages ,I bumped into him on Parson’s walk only the other day .

He hasn’t done the mixers for a couple of years now , and he tells me his licence is with the DVLA in Swansea due to his heart condition .

I think the last truck that he drove may well have been the one owned by Steve Rebel , if I’ve spelled his name right .

Yeah , Dave certainly knew a thing or two about concrete … In fact all the Winks did .

Ozy speaking of the Preston Guild have you ever done the Guild Wheel ride and if you fancy doing it give me a shout 26 miles if you park at Bamber plant or 60 miles if you cycle from home….and I’ll keep mi eyes on track as it was painful that theer fall.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 1st July 2025 at 16:33

The one I’m on about John is Littleborough-Todmorden -Hebden Bridge- Sowerby Bridge-Elland-Brighouse-Huddersfield- Marsden-over Standedge to Diggle , ending up in Greenfield .

I would estimate it would be about 45 miles or so but it’s a long day , and it’s all uphill from Huddersfield to Standedge .

Then you have the problem of getting back through Manchester .

I’ve done it previously on a normal bike , but it’s a while back , and I’m not sure that I’d be up to it now tbh.

Comment by: John (Howfen) on 1st July 2025 at 20:14

Ozy if we parked up at Littlebourgh could you manage if I towed you up hill as I’ve done that with chips when he ran out of battery with a half inch bungee cord, another I fancy is park up near The Marton Arms which is close to Ingleton head for Dent turn right heading for the B6255 turn right on the B6255 and do a short detour to Ribblesdale Viaduct and back to B6255 turning right going past White Scar Caves and through Ingleton to where we started approximately 30 miles and I could tow you 9.8 miles to Dent it’s single track very quiet road, weigh it up Ozy.
