They and the 360-foot-tall chimney would have been a sight to see; I'm sure there are stories on here about how the whole area around there would be lit up with a red glow at night.
I have drawn one of these a few times in my Engineering exams at school.. Along with Electric Arc furnaces. Puddling furnaces. and Crucible furnaces. You could guarantee at least one question, about one of them, would be on every question paper..Even cropped up on the GCSE paper..
They did not have GCSE, in my time at school.
I guess, Ron, you are referring to 'O' level Engineering Drawing. Would that be correct?
It was a subject I remember enjoying in my early to mid teens. A former neighbour of mine had a modern drafting table with parallel motion caroll rule, which she asked me to use to design something for her.
I did think it nothing like as enjoyable as paper secured with drawing pins to a wooden board, and T-Square. I guess I am just old fashioned.
