Taken on the Pioneer yard in Queen St. 2001
Was there a chap who maybe worked for this company in the late 1970’s lived in Chapel St Pemberton, was also a good Bricky?
Does Pioneer actually have a 'yard', or do they operate as subbie agents for Hanson, along with several other owner drivers?
Bruce, the pioneer yard is next door to Travis Perkins in Queen St. although Pioneer as a company no longer exists.
They either merged with, or were taken over by Hanson Premix which at that time was part of A.R.C. about 20 years ago.
More recently, the entire lot was swallowed up by a German outfit by the name of Heidelberg.
Concrete plants, quarries, cement works, the lot.
I think Econo-Mix comes from there too.
Before pioneer ,it was william livesey and co,they had the builders merchant and concrete plant too,i worked there till 76 when they bust, sandras dad john, was a mixer driver there ,he worked for pioneer afterwards i think sandras brother david was also on the mixers.
