I remember Ronnie Lynn from Wigan Subscription Club days. He moved down to the Stoke area must be 25-30 years ago. A really nice man
yes he was ron . i,d heard that the golfer david lynn is his son , but dont quote me on that.i think it,s a lot longer than that ron maybe nearer 35-40yrs as the pit shut in 1989 .
Was Dickie Walls raised in Spring View. It probably wouldn’t have been Dickie when I when I went to school, but a lad that did go to Spring View school, when I did, had very similar features.
Some good darts players on there. First time i've seen Dickie without his hat too
Good Un Bri, recognised you and Dick eck straight away.
that,s why you can tell it was a presentation .
It is indeed dicky of spring view
Staggerd down Ince Green.& Warrington Rd to Spring View many a time with Diky after Darts night in Manley good bloke good Dart Thrower.
Remember Dickie Walls, used to throw with Smartie, always threw in his flat cap.
Second from left Brian Scully from Downall Green.
i did put the names on john . which john banks are you ? .
Soon after this photo was taken Brian Scully was sacked off the darts team because he couldn't add up to one hundred and eighty.
I bet he wasn't
whups. The one who used to play darts for the Plough and Harrow Newtown and the Bold Hotel Worsley Mesnes played in the final of the King of Clubs knock out in the early seventies.
Good darts player, but rubbish at sums.
i thought you might have been the john banks that lived in ashton who knew derek ainscough .
I am played with Derek at Bryn Labour club Derek made me a set of tungsten darts still got them and still use them.

whups WOW is it that long...how time flies... Yes you are correct I believe his son is a pro golfer. Ronnie gave me a lot of diagrams of coal seams but I don't know where they are???
the last i heard ron that he was in the stoke area . i hav,nt heard from him since he moved down there .
Just off old road Dalton Grove till 1989 them moved to Toothill Close off Nicol Road
you,ll remember me then john , i,m from downall green .
When I worked at the Maypole Colliery in the early fifties, tunnelling. We worked under a contractor, a Councillor Jack Sparks, of Ashton. I left the industry at nineteen, and I never learned of the significance of ‘contracter’. Can anyone enlighten me?.
John Whups is Brian Scully
and peterp is peter partridge .
no probs john . hows things ? .
Great can not wait to get back in Bryn Labour Club.
there,s very few places to go in bryn john . many a time we played darts in the oddies & now it,s gone like the park lane , golden ball , red lion , ashfield , brittania etc .
Ron. I know the question I asked referred to many years ago. Have you any knowledge relating to the designation of ‘ Contractor’ within the mining industry.
they employed contractors like the cementation men to do specific work in the mines instead of their own men .
Never seen a dart thrower like Brian streght as they come and that s including pros
Thank you Whups. I don’ t suppose anyone would remember Councillor Jack Sparks, of Ashton in Makerfield. He was the contractor that organised the gangs of tunnellers’, down No 2 pit, at Maypole.
a bit out of my time i,m afraid albert .
Brian his not getting mistaken Albert with Jack burrows Gordon's dad where did he work I know he was councillor
No Mal uf . Name was definitely Jack Sparks. Several of the tunnel lads lived in Ashton. Ernie Ashton’s dad was our fireman. He lived at Clarington Brook, Wigan.
Ok Albert cheers
was brian sparks his son ? . i know he lived in ashton as a lad & his picture is in the schools section under ashton secondry modern
Malc UFCL. I may have got the name wrong. It was probably Ashcroft. At eighty seven, senile decay may have been putting it’s nose in.
Cannot answer that question Whups. Highly likely though.
i remember that reggie jones & this sparks were always at loggerheads over the issue of being a councilor for ashton .
