Tom, I remember Miss Lythgoe very well at school. She lived near my Great aunt, Elizabeth Kay, who spent her entire life teaching at St Mary's.
Dads cousin always known as auntie Winnie to us as children,
That's just how I remember Miss Lythgoe. As you know Tom I knew Frances her niece who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. She taught us how to knit and and we made some slippers in her class as well. Weaving wool over and under a cut out sole! ;o))
I have only recently been made aware of this site by a very old friend who still lives locally.
Miss Lythgoe was the teacher of the first class in the Junior school we had after crossing the road from the Infants. I made my first communion from her class in 1957.
She read various books to us including Hiawatha.
Looking back she must have had the patience of a saint
