I was at Highfield 1958 to 1962 and remember all the teachers as noted by Alan Winstanley. I was in "B" stream and our form teacher was Mr Seddon. I did meet up with Mr Gwilliam again whilst he was at the Deanary, when my daughter was there. I can only remember the names of some of the lads in my class stream. Derek Evans, George Prior, Barry Pennington, Jimmy Bretherton were some. The picture does bring back memories, some not that happy

I attended Highfield from 1960 to 1963 and remember Mr Pimblett (front row, second from left) and Mr Gaskell (front row, fifth from left).
Some of the other teachers I recollect – Mr George Proctor (Head Teacher, emigrated to New Zealand), Mr Aspinall (Geography), Mrs Rhodes (History) Mr Seddon (Science and P.E.), Mr Gwilliam (Italic Writing), Mr Ken Long (English and Music), Mr Sudworth (Metalwork), Mr Anderton (Woodwork), Mr Heaton (Art).
The curriculum was geared to boys going into apprenticeships and unskilled work, and we seemed to spend a lot of our time doing gardening, football, cross-country running and P.E. However, still have many happy memories of my friends at Highfield.

Does anbody remember Miss Todd the vivacious English teacher.
What a character. She had a marvellous personality and inspired me to become a writer. I loved her methods. She was a one off and put up with a lot of deprivations. At the time I was there (1965 - 1969), she was allegedly having an affair with the then Geography teacher, Dave Redhead...
What happened to Patricia Anne Todd?
She left in 1968 and was replaced by the grumpy and dull Miss Nicholson...
Her leaving left a big void; and I in turn finished in July 1969. The school still had one more year to go. It must have been grim in those last months before the school eventually closed and the poor boys that were still there became part of the Deanery.

The man on the extreme right is Arthur Walls, metal work, he went to Linacre just before I did and subsequently to some huge comprehensive school in Kirkby. Later on he wrote a book in collaboration with another ex Linacre teacher on making enamel art. I illustrated it for him.

In response to Mick Eastham....yes Mick, I do remember the incident you mentioned, and at the time I felt that it was most unfair! However, I am now able to laugh about it. it was good to hear from you.
