This is one of Terry Armstrong's Scanias being recovered from the river Mersey in Widnes, circa 1979. Incredible though it may seem, this vehicle went on to cover many thousands of miles after this incident. A testament to Scandinavian engineering if ever there was one.

Bad driving I'd say. How did it get in that state.

You don't say, garry.

Good photo Eddie, yes that brings back great memories, the big square cab scania. Just look at the size of that trailer chassis, only found on tippers, other trailers. (ie box) look like toys. After saying that, they'd have to be strong with all the weight on uneven ground.
Cheers.

The air pipes look like thev snapped back of cabbin.

Heavy haulage has a strong chassis too colin. Eddie Do you think the air pipes broke that caused the accident.

In my opinion day-cabs is much better suited and more practical than sleeper-cabs for the tipper job. Day-cabs better vision for the driver, and not as heavy, so more payload for the operator.

I'm with you on that one Colin, I don't think the lads stayed out on the Granox job anyway. Waste of a sleeper cab really, whereas we were down the road in a daycab. Garry, long story mate, I'll tell you another time. Regards. Eddie.

It really is quite an involved tale Pw. If you go to the Trucknet UK driver's website, look for the Old Time Lorries forum, you'll find a thread entitled
' Wreckers '. It's currently on page 5. There's a detailed explanation on there. Let me know how you get on.
