Like it,Ron,my mam went cleaning at the old Bluecoat after dad died and they wanted to put me in care.My mam was my best carer.
I went to the Bluecoat from about 1956 till 1961, Miss Chadwick was Headmistress of the Infants and Charlie Yates the Head at the Juniors. As I remember, Mr Orgyll was the Caretaker, can anyone confirm that ? Always walking round with a bucket of disinfectant smelling sawdust to put down where some kid had been sick ! Happy days !
Does anyone remember my mum? Her name was Maureen Hamer. She lived at Taylor,s Yard its were the bus station is now. The big stone pillars that are still there now were part of their yard. She went to blue coat school and left in 1962 I think. She is a charity worker at Lourdes charity shop wigan lane. Please let me no if you do x
Hi Dave I don’t remember the caretaker you mention, but I remember the teachers. Mind you I went to the Bluecoat from 1940 and I remember a shop, just a few yards up Hallgate on the right, where there were a mother and daughter serving and their name was Orgill (sp?). I remember being allowed to use my toffee coupons there in the wear...didn’t half make us kids feel grown up lol.
