Remember being taken to Haigh Hall as a kid (many years ago!) and feeding the carp in the pond with crunched up bits of Benson's crisps!
You used to get a little blue screw of salt in Benson's crisp-packets, and, in the early sixties, if you got one with a special ticket inside, you won a whole tin of crisps. My Dad got me a packet from The Long Neck pub in Ince and I got THE TICKET! A whole tin containing twenty packets....I thought all my birthdays had come at once! I can see the tin as if it were yesterday....a square blue one with a Union Jack on each side; I didn't want to return it to the pub when the crisps had gone, but I had to. My Mam and Dad often took me on the "tractor" to Haigh Hall, and I loved to go to the fish-pond and the greenhouses.
Long Neck pub now that's a name to cunger with. I remember the crisps well.
