Vulcan Bank - LE2 John Bradshaw has just fired the Thermit welding process, LE 2 George Taylor is holding the mould to weld a stud onto the web of the rail. Looking on are OHL Inspector Mick O’Neil on the left and Senior Linesman Andy Kincla on the right. The bond (or cable) over Andy’s shoulder in the previous picture will be secured to the Thermit stud once if has cooled a little – April 1989

1 working 3 watching - things have not changed much in railway maintenance!

Yes, I rather wondered how long it would be before some wag made that observation. You are obviously as conscientious with your maths, as your nome-de-plume was the first time around in the 1960’s kid! Let me explain ...
there are two men working if you will look properly and read the script, and that leaves one supervisor (supervisors don’t always necessarily do the physical work as they are in charge of the staff-be pleased to notice the clip board under his arm), and one man to look out or assist in carrying some of the equipment to site. But you have also omitted to count the man taking the picture so that makes a total of five, and by my maths only one not working at that point in time; so off you to the back of the class in the corner with the big pointy cap on!!

Looks Technical and well Engineered Dave, not everyone understants or appreciates this highly skilled work has to be done.
