Rectory Cottages North Ashton (bygone times)
Photo: Janice Ryder

This is a photo of Rectory Cottages sometimes called Church terrace. There were 4 cottages facing the graveyard at the front of the church they had big long gardens these are the ones that you were refering to Susan, Janet and Lyndon. It was taken in the late 1930's. Nearest the Rd. was Greenalls, 2 Charnock, 3 Winstanley who you both mentioned he was the man who grew the flowers, 4 Lowe who was killed in a mining accident. This photo was taken on Trinity Sunday and shows from Lt to Rt Billy Ashton who lived in cottages that were at the front of Cromptons Hingemakers works on Billinge Rd. were the bus stop is now. At the side of him is Bill Ryder and just behind them is Ken Ryder. Ken and Bill, lived in the house next to the police houses HA.HA. on Billinge Rd. Hope this brings back good memories, and we get as much interest as we did on Pig St.
