26-04-1964.M6 construction by Sir Alfred McApine & Son Ltd.

Those of you who travel up north on the M6 past Preston may have called in at Forton Services as they were called. Either side of the main carriageway are shown the slip roads up to what will become the services area. The cabin on wheels is for the workmen to have their brew and shelter from the elements.Sometimes the site was "rained off" that depended on the Works Manager for the section. All the bridges were built by Leonard Fairclough Ltd ( from Adlington) as part of the consortium. No doubt Wigan labour played its part in the structures.
