Is 'Haigh Sough' now known as Aspull Sough?

Comment by: Garry on 12th May 2023 at 06:08

Very nice and colourful, I love nature especially this time of year.
Cheers Harry.

Well I bet that surpised you Harry, a peacock out for a stroll.
( Glad to be back with my morning 'fix' of WW. Been without as Gremlins have been at work in the gismo's )

He looks in no difficulty whatsoever strutting merrily and proudly along , and how nice , and unusual , to add Peacock to the list during a birdwatching expedition .

Love it!

Do they have these in Shangri La?

Comment by: DTease on 12th May 2023 at 10:01

The Parish Council would never allow it, Gary. They would have the Anti-Peacock squad out after it in no time.
Mind you, if Mick’s Council Tenants got to it first it would probably be boiling in a pot by now.
It’s a little known fact, but Mick is the head man of the Anti-peacock Squad and is officially known as “Ye Olde Parish Peacock Pouncer”, This entitles him to carry a large Butterfly Net when he is out on patrol on his bike and he uses this to “Pounce” on the poor creature and drag it off to the Official Peacock Pound where it is held in Peacock Servitude for the rest of it’s life.

What a beautiful creature! Good photo, Harry. I too haven't been able to post, Helen, but due to being unwell, and unable to press the computer keys for a few days due to problems with my hands, but oh, Dtease....you are better then a bottle of medicine....."ye olde parish peacock-pouncer" tickled me no end and has cheered me up! Thankyou. xx

DTease, surprisingly Shevyers have a recipe for Peacocks because they are so plentiful around there. In English the name of the recipe sounds to be so very plain, Peacock with Bread, Tomatoes, and Cheese with Dandelions and Greens in White Lightning, though in French it sounds so exotic! - C'est tellement exotique! Pain grillé Tomates Mozzarella Au Lard Et Vinaigre Balsamique, Au Croustillant D'Pavo en pissenlit légumes verts.

You'll be able to order it from any of the many pavement or canal side cafes that are around there, though another local speciality is favoured by the locals - Transport caff style sausage, egg, chips and beans.

A couple further down the road own some peacocks and the neighbours are not very happy when it’s the breeding season because of the noise they make.

I believe that Shevyers are more accustomed to pigeon, eating peacocks and pheasants is for those with a higher standard up the hill in St. Andish

Comment by: Gary on 12th May 2023 at 14:50

Dtease - the power of your imagination brings us both Shevvy reality and haute cuisine!

Comment by: DTease on 12th May 2023 at 15:16

Or that other Shangri-La favourite M. Etienne, Road kill in pea juice garnished with shredded nettle leaves and chips or a fried Mars bar.

That’s a fine strutting peacock Harry Cunliffe and it’s good to see one of your photos again, long time no see! A refreshing change. One does get tired of seeing ‘Cherry pickers’ all over the place in Wigan.

Strange comments today, bored people me thinks

Comment by: Cyril on 12th May 2023 at 20:36

He looks quite happy strutting down the lane Harry, he may be an escapee from Haigh Hall, they had Peacocks and Peahens strutting around.

Ye Olde Parish Peacock Pouncer is very funny DTease, and also Mick being the head anti peacock squad.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell Irene, I was saying in a post the other day that you hadn't posted for a while, hope you are back to normal soon.
