What was once some ones pride and joy now nothing but a rusting hulk?

Comment by: Poet on 13th March 2023 at 07:57

It must have looked like a Viking funeral when it was alight .

Well, thats not a pleasant sight for Monday morning Mike after yesterday's photo.
Who would have done that , spite, fun or a touch of jealousy ? You cant win with some people & I dont wish them well.

What a real shame, what's wrong with people, that boat only fit for scrap now. It must have been like an inferno, you can see the steel work weakened. Hopefully nobody was inside.

Comment by: Sandra on 13th March 2023 at 08:17

Hope no one was hurt. It looks/was an awful fire.

Comment by: Sue on 13th March 2023 at 08:22

Fire as taken everything, hope no lives were lost. Rev Long, would that shell be repairable or will it be cut up for scrap value in your opinion.

Comment by: Arthur on 13th March 2023 at 08:26

Mike sad photo, do you know the facts, nobody hurt I hope and has the arsonists been arrested? Looks totally gutted.

Comment by: Maureen on 13th March 2023 at 08:43

How evil must the culprits be to watch as the poor boat and all its belongings go up in smoke..this was obviously someone's pride and joy and it must have been heartbreaking to find it like this...what are we breeding at all.

Was it torched or an accident?Looks like it has been there a while.

Comment by: Dave on 13th March 2023 at 09:02

Folk are very quick to come to conclusions and make judgements without knowing any facts . This could have been the result of an accident .

Great picture as always Mike

A lot of these boats have solid fuel fires / log burners installed. There's a possibility.
The steel hull will still have a high value.

Comment by: Rev David Long on 13th March 2023 at 11:10

The incident was reported in the local press at the time:
https://www.wigantoday.net/news/wigan-canal-boat-home-goes-up-in-flames-after-suspected-arson-attack-4033305
Given the distortion to both the hull and the saloon, I would reckon the insurance company would write this off.

by the time they paid for getting it out and down to scrap mom they proberly out of pocket

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 13th March 2023 at 12:36

Such a sad sight. My husband told me about it a couple of weeks ago as he had passed it during a walk along the canal bank. It used to be lovely along there around April/May each year. with a number of colourful boats tied up and The Dover Lock Pub still in business. Now even the shell that is all that's left of the pub had been set on fire a few times.

I think it was Tommy Lee Royce !

Comment by: Bob Eneri on 13th March 2023 at 19:46

I suspect Cain Dingle. He's a wrong 'un.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 13th March 2023 at 21:19

Brilliant, Kenee!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 13th March 2023 at 21:59

Whoever the moron is, ( ie "Bob Eneri"), who is transposing the letters on mine and Veronica's names to add these bogus comments must be very short of something to do or must have a big space to fill between his ears. Pathetic and childish.
