Even when modernised with all mod-cons, without being allowed to enlarge windows they are terribly dark inside. I have visited a few and in winter lights are on at 2-30 pm. No thank you!
I suppose that is a drawback, dark rooms. Imagine what it was like when they were first built, using candles or oil lamps. I still like stone cottages though. I've had a couple of friends who lived in them, and been told they are cold inside, summer and winter..
