This is a nice photo but I wish someone else could be given a chance to post on p-a-d. I have received by email a stunning photo of a well-known Wigan landmark which my friend has taken and recently sent into p-a-d. to no avail. My friend is a talented photographer as are many p-a-d daily viewers but it seems to be becoming a one-man-show. and I know people who have stopped taking the time to submit photos because they have given up hope of them being shown. Please, admin, give someone else a chance.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th November 2019 at 13:55

Although Mick's pictures are good, it's always refreshing to see others. A different eye and all that.....

Comment by: Anne on 7th November 2019 at 15:29

It's been said before, if people don't send photos to be published then that is it. Nothing to do with favouritism. Over the past five years I have sent the occasional photo and not had one ignored. Maybe it's photos from registered members only that are published, I don't know. Is your friend a member Irene? Why not try yourselves ladies?

Comment by: irene robertsI on 7th November 2019 at 16:04

Yes, my friend is a member and has had beautiful photos shown on p-a-d but not for a long time. He has shown me the photos he has sent recently and they are exceptional. I no longer have a printer and can't send photos myself. As you say, Anne...."if people don't send photos to be published then that is it"....my point being that people have stopped sending them because they never appear, yet one member's photos are shown ten days in a row. If my friend's photos weren't good, so be it, but they are excellent and he has captured the landmarks in our town imaginatively and thoughtfully. I don't mind Mick's photos at all...I would just like to see other people's sometimes. Fair's fair, (and this ISN'T!).

Comment by: Mick on 7th November 2019 at 16:36

Irene and Veronica if this photo was taken by Joe Soap would it make any difference to your viewing.
Try not to look at the name next time and concentrate on the actual Photo of the day, thats appears on Wiganworld as if by magic every morning for you to view.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th November 2019 at 18:04

I imagine photos in a long queue awaiting appearance!.. So everyone gets a fair chance... I haven't a clue really, how it works, but it must be said that those who do send their pictures are doing a good job for this site....has it ever been known that there wasn't a picture available?.....I don't suppose that would ever happen on here.....in fact it would be a shock, as most people go to PAD first. Especially ex-pats!

Comment by: irene roberts on 7th November 2019 at 18:46

Mick, I have no objection to your photos and I often comment on them, and I'm sure you gain pride and satisfaction from seeing them each day, but there are other people on here who have taken the time and trouble to take photos to submit, often waiting for some time until the light is right to show their subjects to the best advantage. They would also like to see THEIR efforts rewarded, and so would I. However, I feel I am wasting my time in voicing my opinion as I don't think the admin people are listening.

A splendid canopy Mick, with an equally splendid livery on Harry's boat - A sumptuous photo.

Comment by: DTease on 7th November 2019 at 20:34

Perhaps they should change the name from P.A.D to Mick's Pics Irene.
To be fair though, he has put some good ones on recently...but I do see your point.

Comment by: Pw on 7th November 2019 at 20:40

Not heard about Joe Soap for years

Comment by: Johnny on 7th November 2019 at 22:07

You're shouting again Irene !

Comment by: Mick on 7th November 2019 at 22:31

Veronica you are correct photos are put into a long queue awaiting appearance, except Oys.
I also think that you wont get many camera men turning out at this time of the year taking photos. and I think some people only put photos on PAD so they can get nice comments and a pat on the head, saying well done, and these individuals wont like when the comments drift away from there photo like they do most days.

Comment by: Brian on 7th November 2019 at 23:00

Hi all, I will try to answer your questions and explain how photo-a-day works.

Firstly, I can't publish all photos submitted, there are simply too many and I have to be selective. I would love to publish them all (perhaps I could change the site and do that?).

There is definitely no favouritism. Doesn't matter if you're a member or not.

Photos are added by myself every few days (sometimes 3 weeks worth if I'm going on holiday) to a queue. Sometimes, contributions can be low which is why you will see a few days from the same person.

A few days ago I checked my emails for photo submissions. Nothing! Mick sent in a few of which I'm grateful as I am for anyones submissions. Hence a few days of Mick's photos.

Checked my emails today and I have lots of submissions from different people so will use most of these over the next few days.

Its a difficult job and I hope you all understand. Thanks for reading. ;)

Thankyou, Brian, for clearing this up.

Comment by: Pw on 8th November 2019 at 08:31

Well done Brian and all who contribute to PAD

Comment by: Alan on 8th November 2019 at 09:11

Well done Brian I did understand that's how it works.

Comment by: Veronica on 8th November 2019 at 09:35

When it's put like that, it's easier to understand and realise what goes into keeping this site going all these years. Who would have thought it would go on as long as it has done. Much appreciation to all! I remember how exciting it was at the beginning finding the site and discovering all the pictures of Scholes which meant a lot to me especially at the time - must be 12 years ago now! Long may it continue.

Comment by: Mick on 8th November 2019 at 10:49

Ive not noticed any apologies to Mick yet for dragging his name through the mud.
You know what they say, If you chuck enough muck some of it will end up sticking.

Comment by: Veronica on 8th November 2019 at 14:12

Mick I for one admire your tenacity and enthusiasm in getting around on your bike to take photos in all weathers. Same with all the others who find the time, such as Ron on his mobility scooter. I am looking forward to seeing snowy landscapes this Winter. It's good of all the photographers, a motley crew, too many to mention, not seen lately. Although you seem to be the 'King-pin' for WW PaD,it is nice to see the others contributions as well, (who perhaps don't have the same time as you have). As Brian says others are in the pipeline. So keep going and keep well. xx
ps even Joe Soap gives a different slant.:o))

Comment by: britboy on 8th November 2019 at 14:43

As an ex-pat, I for one enjoy every submission, keep up the good work all!

Comment by: irene robertsI on 8th November 2019 at 16:30

Mick, (who has commented on the lack of an apology), I don't know if you are the Mick who took the photo or another Mick, but I said nothing wrong about Mick's photos and DID NOT drag his name through the mud. My complaint was that no-one else seems to get a look-in but that is not Mick's fault......admin decide what is going to be shown. Also, I am not the only person who has commented on what appeared to be favouritism over the last few months....other people have mentioned it too, but Brian has now explained why there is sometimes a run of one person's photos over a few days. I put forward what I felt was a justified complaint on behalf of all contributors to p-a-d and Brian kindly answered it.

Comment by: Johnny on 8th November 2019 at 19:44

Still shouting Irene !

Comment by: Mick on 8th November 2019 at 20:00

Yes Irene I understand but by mentioning Mick so many times viewers who have just popped in for a peep and who read between the lines will think its me who is in the wrong.

Comment by: irene roberts on 8th November 2019 at 22:36

If there are two Micks, (the photographer and another one), we could do with a surname on the ensuing comments to tell you apart, gentlemen! No-one is in the wrong; I just made an observation which Brian sorted. Johnny, I am not shouting; you just need to turn your hearing-aid down, love! xx

Comment by: Pw on 9th November 2019 at 07:43

Irene, you are entitled to your point of view and but you did not put a complaint forward about PAD on my behalf

Comment by: Garry on 9th November 2019 at 16:54

Let stop all this nonsense, after all, we are all friends and family on WW.

Comment by: XPat on 9th November 2019 at 19:14

Sorry ! But it is not at all nonsense ! Irene’s point was perfectly and very valid to me . Even though Brian kindly explained , if our much regarded Dave Oy had ten on the trot , this would not be right also . Irene only spoke of balance and fairness to all . How can you in any way validate or equate that to nonsense ?

Comment by: Poet on 10th November 2019 at 01:01

Aye, the Walker would be very dull with only one painter.

Comment by: Mick on 10th November 2019 at 08:41

Best way is just keep sending in YOUR photos if you dont want Photo-a-Day to become a one man show.

Comment by: Veronica on 10th November 2019 at 10:02

Well said!

Comment by: Alan on 10th November 2019 at 13:01

XPat talks Nonsense. Brian sums it up perfectly. We need more Dave Oy top draw photos.

Comment by: Veronica on 10th November 2019 at 15:41

Can't expect Dave Oy to keep sending photos in, he is professional and has a living to make. He is doing a favour, like all the others who send photos in for Brian's selection.
I thought the matter was settled.

Comment by: Johnny on 10th November 2019 at 16:46
