Very nice Mick,presumably taken early in the morning or on a Sunday perhaps? The traffic is usually very heavy at this junction.

Over forty years since I've seen that view - take away the road paint and plastic shop fronts, not much has changed.
This is the type of picture Wigan exiles, in the UK and abroad, will study for ages.

This is near the kennels where we used to take Our Ben. We lost him in December but he is never far from my mind and I got a pang when I saw this photo. That song "There's Always Something There To Remind Me" is so true.

Where I grew up, and we always called it Pemberton, back then. Anyone remember the stocks in the little grassy area where the KFC is now?

I recall my dad pronouncing Lamberhead Green as 'Lommerra Green'! Does it still get called that?

I remember the stocks being there Fred till about 20 years ago, when they built the the shops where KFC is now they moved the stumps to the back of the new buildings round the corner on Fleet Street, not sure if they're still there or not.

That's not Lamberhead Green. That's Pemberton. Lamberhead Green is at the back to the left of that photo.

The only thing I would say about that is that The 'Council School' as it was called sometimes, way over to the right of the picture,down Bradshaw Street and 'Gossips' was called Lamberhead Primary School !
St Johns C of E down Church Street was St Johns Pemberton.
Confusing or what ?
