I've run down there loads of times in the late 50s early 60s from the pub to catch the kick off at Central Park.

I've fumbled many a young lady in this alley after a night out in the town. I don't recall the lamp post...black as Newgates knocker in those days!!

From Wigan Lane to Tesco Mick, Wigan Lane was there LONG before Tesco, a short cut to Central Park.

Not a good alley to walk; on a dark night. Is that the Convent school on the right.

That's next to St Mary's School, walked up there so many times. Thanks Mick

Walking down that snicket a few years ago workmen were repairing the wall, "come on missus we'll stop while you come passed". Missus, I used to get a whistle and was called lass. Where did the years go.

You little tinker, Johnny!

I bet you were a 'rum'lad Johnny.

Comment by: Vb on 6th April 2016 at 10:51

Perhaps it should be named 'Memory Lane Alley'.! !!!! It was a dirt track as I recall not nicely laid with Tarmac.

Neil
Just beautiful and happy memories. I always escorted my dates home if the last bus was missed, no matter where they lived. These alleys were ideal for a "heavy breather". Its a long walk to Standish and a longer walk back home :-)
Maureen/Irene
Thank you girls for the compliment!

What a gem! Some things have stayed the same in Wigan, you just have to look for them, great photograph, a place still locked in a past time and obviously rekindle some fond memories :-)

Comment by: Mick on 6th April 2016 at 17:06

Neil its up to Wigan Lane, even if the path was going down hill it would still be up.
