The rabbit rocks! A wonderful memory of going for a walk "Up t'Cut-Bank" with my Dad. They were near to my Aunty Mary's on West Street.

Strange rock formation, anyone know something about them??

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th April 2015 at 16:32

They were formed from some kind of overflow from the ironworks if I remember rightly. They used to be a much more solid shape than they are now, as if the material they are made from has softened with the weather over the years.

They are made from the Slag left at the bottom of the Furnace at the end of the iron making process.

Does anyone know how they came to be known as Rabbit Rocks?

Comment by: Garry on 28th April 2015 at 21:02

Ellen, because of Rabbits.
Den S is spot on. Slag from the coal and Iron company.
