What's bein' demolished? Another icon building bits the dust!

but what on earth have they done to that beautiful willow tree!!

Pity the tree wasn't on the protected list. If it was what now? Most are in my neighbourhood, not even allowed to lop a branch off.

The Pier nightclub was always controversial, people either loved it or hated it. I seem to recall that when it first opened 30 odd years ago it was called The Barge and didn't last very long. A mate of mine was always stuck in there at one time, I was never attracted to it at all.

You're right Jonno/ScholesMalc. It was a sh**hole. Never went though,still lamenting the demise of the Casino and Ritz cinema. Now they were iconic.

When the building re-oppened round about 1975 it wa a caberet bar.It had a few top turns of the day and had a good atmosphere.It was quaint inside and had a brook running through it ,Happy Days

What,s planned to replace it, anyone know?

Giovanni, Rule one. Stand by what you believe in. If you see it as an icon then so it is.

I seem to recall something in the Observer about it being turned into a public open space - which makes destroying the willow seem a bit odd.

Kal - When I first read the caption I assumed the Pier as well. Couldn't give a toss for the night club. Therefore the qualification in my last comment!

The main thing is what comes after?
