but what on earth have they done to that beautiful willow tree!!

Comment by: Anne on 7th November 2014 at 09:07

Pity the tree wasn't on the protected list. If it was what now? Most are in my neighbourhood, not even allowed to lop a branch off.

The Pier nightclub was always controversial, people either loved it or hated it. I seem to recall that when it first opened 30 odd years ago it was called The Barge and didn't last very long. A mate of mine was always stuck in there at one time, I was never attracted to it at all.

Correct Scholes Malc, and not before time. Sxxxholes must be iconic to Giovanni, get real lad.

Comment by: Giovanni on 7th November 2014 at 13:38

You're right Jonno/ScholesMalc. It was a sh**hole. Never went though, still lamenting the demise of the Casino and Ritz cinema. Now they were iconic.

When the building re-oppened round about 1975 it wa a caberet bar.It had a few top turns of the day and had a good atmosphere. It was quaint inside and had a brook running through it ,Happy Days

What,s planned to replace it, anyone know?
You never know Kath they might even save your willow.... Which would be nice don,t you think?

Comment by: Jonno on 7th November 2014 at 17:28

Now you're talking Giovanni.

Comment by: Kal on 7th November 2014 at 18:38

Giovanni, Rule one. Stand by what you believe in. If you see it as an icon then so it is.

Comment by: Rev David Long on 7th November 2014 at 20:30

I seem to recall something in the Observer about it being turned into a public open space - which makes destroying the willow seem a bit odd.

Comment by: Giovanni on 8th November 2014 at 09:43

Kal - When I first read the caption I assumed the Pier as well. Couldn't give a toss for the night club. Therefore the qualification in my last comment!

The main thing is what comes after?

Comment by: Mary K on 9th November 2014 at 16:41
