Nicely done Dave, I almost feel like I'm getting wet

Comment by: Ken R on 8th October 2012 at 00:32

Nice drop of rain it seems to have washed all the colours away except for the Auntie Nellies

Comment by: Janice on 8th October 2012 at 00:44

Another great shot Dave. Great contrast and use of colour popping and some excellent reflections. Just goes to show - don't put your camera away when it rains. Also a very nice view of Wigan

Wait for the accusation of "Fiddlin'" from 'you know who', Dave ;o)

BTW, Brill pic!!

Comment by: Deb on 8th October 2012 at 04:14

Great photo, love the pink umbrella's in the black and white picture.

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 8th October 2012 at 05:32

Wow that is a bit wet. Nice touch with the pink umbrellas. I guess you are all coming into winter as we are into spring right now. Our summer starts the 1st of December and it will probably be a scorcher. It took me quite a while to get used to saying December was quite warm.that is what you get I suppose for living on the bottom of the world!!!! Cheers

Wigan at its worse not very inviting to shoppers, cold &wet

Comment by: Ron D on 8th October 2012 at 08:35

Very nice

Dave, where does your caption come from? - never met it before.
Have tried to find the amount of rainfall in Sept.in Wigan, but without success.
Ken R, please explain "Auntie Nellie`s".

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 8th October 2012 at 09:31

The chap who sells `stuff` for making soap bubbles, in front of the Grand Arcade, is nowhere in sight !!

Comment by: jamie on 8th October 2012 at 12:15

I think dave's caption comes from the old channel 4 show - Bo' Selecta the Mel B spoof used to refare to her intimate feminine region as being 'wetter than an otters pocket!'

Comment by: David Barker on 8th October 2012 at 12:59

One thing for sure umbrella salesmen/women, will never be out of work in Britain, like the contrast Dave.

Comment by: Maureen Andrews nee McGovern on 8th October 2012 at 13:35

Ernest.. re the Auntie Nellies I think Ken's referring to the umbrellas.

Comment by: Catherine on 8th October 2012 at 13:35

Makes me homesick that photo! Another great one Oy.

Comment by: Al.C. on 8th October 2012 at 14:21

You got the angle just right on this Dave, feel as if I'm walking into the frame.

Comment by: Janet on 8th October 2012 at 14:46

Al.C. That's what it is ... I liked the pic, black and white, pop of colour with the pink umbrellas, etc etc, but there was something else that I couldn't quite figure out.. You said it, I felt like I was right there in the frame...Great pic Dave...

(Art`s comment at 01:15)

Comment by: Mick on 8th October 2012 at 23:15

Amazing bit of photography Dave well done mate.
A photo like this could be used in a breast cancer advert especially if the umbrellas matched.

GREETINGS FROM THE US,OY,GREAT PIC.

Comment by: Janet on 8th October 2012 at 23:50

I really miss shopping in a Town centre verses Walmart for groceries and Malls with the same stores as every other Mall in America..Wigan isn't the Wigan I grew up with and loved.. but you at least still have somewhat of a Town centre..

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 9th October 2012 at 02:43

Well Art, are you flabbergasted?
I agree with you Mick.

Comment by: sanibelfred on 9th October 2012 at 16:28

After no rain from Jan to Aug I recently had the pleasure of drinking good coffee and looking at birds through the window of Starbucks. It was interesting that when I said a coffee shop near to Woolworths everyone knew what I meant.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 9th October 2012 at 21:01

sanibelfred lives on Sanibel Island in Florida and was visiting Wigan. The Starbucks he mentions is in Wigan Market Place and I was with him!

Comment by: Lizzie down under. on 12th October 2012 at 20:49

Thought Auntie Nellies was rhyming slang for Wellies (Wellington Boots) could be wrong but it sounds right to me. Cheers!!!!

Comment by: Philip Whitehead on 13th October 2012 at 14:07

Nice use of colourpop mate.

Comment by: Neil Rigby on 14th October 2012 at 22:47

Auntie Nellie seems to be cockney rhyming slang for Belly, and Auntie Ella for Umbrella, see http://www.phespirit.info/cockney/slang_to_english.htm
