More bridge repairs

More bridge repairs
Bridge over L&L canal leading up to Haigh Hall being inspected and refurbished. Talking to a fellow who was measuring the cross pieces on the parapet with intention of welding new cross struts. He reckons his last job was welding on Tower bridge.

Nice picture Ron, I guess it's back to the humdrum for that welder, but then again a quid is a quid wherever you are.

When as children we walked along the tow path, this bridge was called lattice bridge to identify it from others on the walk. It is still one of nicest walks in Wigan and district.

Interesting photo Ron.

I remember you telling me that you once sailed under Tower bridge on your canal boat.

I bet there not many Wiganers who have done that.

I can only claim to have been in Wigan for 16 years... but I, too, have sailed under Tower Bridge in a narrow boat belonging to a friend.

Ah but Rev Long Ron was driving his own boat that he drove all the way from Wigan.

Ah, well, if we're into boasting - I've done London twice in my own boat... and Paris quite a few times. ;-))

Talking of boats and boasting,Rev Long an ex employer of mine used to take his posh boat to Majorca through France because he feared crossing The Bay of Biscay.Never invited me along though.

I have sailed round the World in a McDonalds Carton, with only a ham sandwich and a stick of juicy fruit for sustenance. So there!

What's boasting got to do with this bridge???

I did not intend to dry up the interesting subject of the Tower Bridge. A few years ago a kind young fellow gave me a ride on his single cylinder diesel narrow canal boat from the bridge in the picture. He was going to Manchester via ?. He dropped me off at New Springs. A distant relative has permission to drive her sheep across Tower Bridge. Bunny said
I've been consulted by Franklin D,
Greta Garbo has had me to tea,
I've got a house a show place,
Still I can't get noplace with you.
