Flats
Flats   by Brian  (Fuji Finepix S7000)
Flats at top of Greenough Street, so much going on in this photo. Note CCTV, railing at top, tall lamp post, lightening strips, evidence of fire on ground floor, pattern of bricks etc etc.

Comment by Patrick on 30th May 2011 at 00:18
Lightening strips?

Comment by alan on 30th May 2011 at 00:37

Comment by John on 30th May 2011 at 08:04

Boyswell House - the last 'tall flats' built in Wigan - (1970?)

Comment by Helen on 30th May 2011 at 08:29
A very ugly building but I suppose its home to some folk.

Comment by cullie on 30th May 2011 at 08:40

Looks like a scene from War of The Worlds.

Comment by peterp on 30th May 2011 at 09:34
i think john meant can be a lonely place for some. Because of handle of shot looks like a very tall lamp-post

Comment by Jon on 30th May 2011 at 11:07

Comment by John on 30th May 2011 at 11:29
Sorry Cullie, and thanks Peterp, I meant some people were put in there as tempory accommodation but have spent years in them.

When my daughter was about 3 years old she always wanted to live in those flats !!! Golden oldies on here may remember a childrens TV programme called Mary,Mungo and Midge which was filmed in a high rise tower and that is why she wished she lived there.

Wouldn't like to clean the windows on the 12th floor!!

Comment by Bill Eatock on 10th July 2011 at 13:27
Wigan council haven't allowed the public access to their security cameras...and there's no decent webcams in the town.Pity as the view from those cameras would be superb.

I think these flats are the nicer ones! Probably because the are built with bricks and not concrete.
