I was learning to drive an old bread van,I had loaded some sacks of Hovis flour at Wigan Pier(Canal)and the Bobbie on point duty at Library Street stopped me. When he waived me on, I wasn't in gear and the van rolled back into a Wigan bus, no damage done and the Bobbie stood with his hands on his hips as I crawled past him into Library Street. This was in 1944. E.T.

It's funny how some images from the past remain with us forever, what a rotten job it must have been on point duty. Thanks for your comments.
