Kindly submitted by David Long. Photographs from the turn of the last century, taken by Matthew Walters, a grocer from Warrington Road, Lower Ince. Some of them are very arty and posed, but most are wonderful period pics of the countryside out around Gathurst and beyond.

These photos were given to David Long (Vicar of St. Mary's, Ince) by a parishioner, Mr Bill Rimmer of Malvern Crescent, Spring View. He was a chorister at St. Mary's for many years, and salvaged the box of slides from the rubble of the church when it was demolished in 1978. It seems that Mr Walters used to give "Magic Lantern" shows to raise money for the church. It may be that other sets of such slides from his collection were salvaged by others from the area.
