|Do You Live On Fit Street?
FORGET Coronation Street, Wigan’s getting its own Fit Street.
A special weekend of free activities has been planned at all of the borough’s public leisure centres and pools in a bid to boost participation in physical activity.
The Fit Street campaign is a chance for people to view the facilities on offer, try the state-of-the-art gym equipment and join in some free programmes.
It’s also a chance for people to sign up for universal free swimming in Wigan Borough - set to be introduced later this year - by obtaining a Lifestyle Card.
Organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, who manage the centres on behalf of the Council, the open day will take place over the weekend of 21st and 22nd February.
Mike Lyons, Commercial Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: “We’re throwing open our doors for free to show people the fantastic facilities in their communities and because we want to prove that getting active can be fun.
“From Tai Chi to Children’s fun time there’s something for everyone.
“It’s also a chance for people to sign up early before universal free swimming is introduced. Given the current economic climate we’re expecting a rush, so this is a great chance to beat the queue.”
Free activities include swimming, aqua aerobics, fun and floats, karate, football, cricket and Wii fit for adults.
There’ll also be a chance to try free taster sessions in Tai Chi, Pilates, Dance and newly introduced classes of Body Combat and Body Pump.
Leisure Centres taking part include: Ashton Leisure Centre, Hindley Leisure Centre, Hindley Pool, Howe Bridge Sports Centre, Leigh Indoor Sports Centre, Robin Park Indoor Sport s and Tennis Centre and Tyldesley Pool.
