|Shopper helps woman following purse theft
A good Samaritan came to the aid of a pensioner who had her purse stolen while she was out shopping in Wigan.
At about 4.10pm on Saturday 24 January 2009, the woman was in Marks and Spencer in Standishgate, when she noticed her bag had been opened and her purse stolen.
The victim had been followed around the store by two women, described as being of eastern European appearance, mid to late 20s, 5ft tall with long dark hair.
When the woman noticed her purse had been stolen she became upset and was comforted by a shopper, who gave her some cash.
Police Constable Antony Chesters, from Wigan police station, said: "This incident acts as a reminder to people to be aware of their surroundings and to always keep your belongings safe.
"The victim was clearly upset by what happened to her and would like to thank the man who helped her.
"I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact police."
