|Check Out Your Health….At The Library!
FREE health checks will be available at Wigan Library and Leigh Library as part of a week dedicated to encouraging people to get in shape.
Scores of activities have been organised including an introduction to Medical Herbalism, Pilates taster sessions and Samba Soccer.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, who run the borough’s libraries, are hoping the free events will act as a starting point for those looking to change direction and live healthier lives.
Carole Ogden, Reading Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: “Free health checks aren’t something you’d expect to find at a library but it makes perfect sense.
“After a free 15 minute personal health assessment people can sign up for a course, get tips and advice for free on-line or take out a self-help book or fitness DVD.”
Over the last few years Wigan and Leigh’s libraries have changed significantly, hosting a wide range of activities and community events.
Carole added: “Hopefully, people will take advantage of these events and take the first steps to a healthier lifestyle.”
There will be activities for all ages from trying out the virtual gym on a Wii Fit board to Physi Bodies - a fun exercise session for under fives and their parents or carers - and Samba Soccer for over 16s.
And to keep the mind active there’s also a free photo restoration and reminiscence session where faded and damaged photographs can be restored to their former glory while people share their memories.
Libraries Health Week starts on 31st January and ends on 7th February.
Sessions will be available at Wigan Library, College Avenue, Wigan, and Leigh Library, Civic Square, Leigh.
Osteoporosis screening will be available but there will be a charge of £10.
