|Man attacked and burgled in his own home - Wigan
A man was attacked and burgled in Wigan.
On Monday 5 January 2009, the victim was at home asleep when at about 3am he was disturbed by men in his house on Douglas Bank Drive, Wigan.
The two men, who had already ransacked other rooms, punched him in the face a number of times, demanding cash, keys to his van and bank cards.
He was tied up with a telephone cable and the men continued to search the rest of the house.
They stole a number of items including a credit card, for which they demanded the pin number.
The men are described as white, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, of slim to medium build and wearing dark clothing. They both had their faces covered and spoke with a Liverpool accent.
Detective Constable Danny Ritchie from Wigan CID said: "These men have gone into the house while the victim slept, searching for property to steal.
"When the victim was woken, they then proceeded to beat him until they got what they wanted to steal.
"The victim needed treatment for his injuries and has been left extremely shaken by his ordeal.
"If anyone saw the men prior to or after the attack, please get in touch. It would appear this is the work of opportunistic thieves so I would urge residents in the local community to keep their windows and doors locked at all times."
