Past Forward 50 Editions

WIGAN’S much loved history magazine has reached its own historical landmark with its 50th edition.

Past Forward, first published in 1991, is a “People’s History” magazine packed with reader contributions including; stories, letters, photographs and interesting articles together with details of heritage related events and activities happening across Wigan Borough.

Since its first release the magazine’s popularity has grown and developed and now has a firm fan base which even stretches down under.

Fred Rosbottom and his wife emigrated to Australia in 1987 to be near their daughter who lives in Sydney. Having spent their whole lives living in Wigan this was a huge move for the couple and they greatly missed many aspects of Wigan life.

Fred, 78, pictured receiving ‘The Citizen of the Year’ award two years ago for services to his local community in Hornsby Shire said: “I thoroughly enjoy reading Past Forward. Each edition manages to bring many memories flooding back.

“Ernie Taberner is one of my favourite contributors to the magazine and I always look forward to reading his articles which bring back days of long forgotten. He must have a wonderful memory.

“I wish to congratulate all the people involved over the past 50 editions of the magazine for the effort they have contributed in making one of the best such publications in England.”

Past Forward is available for £1 at Haigh Hall, Wigan Tourist Information Centre, Wigan Archive Service (Leigh Town Hall) and all the borough’s libraries.

You can also receive Past Forward through the post for £5 for all three issues annually. For further information contact 01942 828128.
