Spate of burglaries
Friday 28th November, 2008

Police are appealing to residents in Wigan to be vigilant following a spate of house burglaries.

On Thursday 27 November 2008, police received reports of seven house burglaries in the Billinge area of Wigan in and around the Orrell Waterpark and Crank Road areas

Witnesses reported that at about 6am, four men were seen to run off from one of the homes. A short time later, two offenders were spotted looking around a house while standing on a private driveway.

A car stole from one of the burglaries was recovered nearby.

Pemberton Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Clarke said "This level of criminality does cause me some concern, and can difficult to target when it occurs so rarely. I have got a team of experienced officers working with colleagues in neighbouring forces seeking out witnesses, and identifying opportunities for recovery of evidence. In order for us to respond effectively, it is vital that our communities report all incidents of a suspicious nature immediately, particularly if occurring during the early hours.

"Please be reassured that I have already put an effective response into place to investigate these crimes thoroughly and identify those responsible. I would encourage anyone with further information to call Wigan Police Station on 0161 872 5050, the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or DC Wendy Blacklidge on 0161 856 7147."
