Know your place?
Wednesday 5th November, 2008

This month, thousands of local residents will be asked what they think about life in Wigan borough – and if you are one of them, your views matter more than ever.

Wigan Council is proud to have been one of a small band of top-rated local authorities since the introduction of a new government inspection regime in 2002.

Now, a new ‘place-based’ survey method puts local people at the heart of the assessment framework, meaning that the core test of local performance – and the future direction of public services – will be whatever you put down on paper.

Survey forms will be sent out to 5,000 randomly-selected households. Anybody over the age of 18 can fill them in – just look out for the Wigan Borough Partnership logo.

Wigan Council’s Chief Executive, Joyce Redfearn explains: “Local people care passionately about where they live, and they know better than anyone else what’s best – and what could be better – about life in Wigan borough.

“This is a real opportunity for residents to help the council and its partners deliver the kind of services people need and want. That’s why we are here.”
