|Let there be lights – Christmas is coming to Wigan
Carol singing, fairy lights, brightly-coloured stalls…it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
There’s plenty going on in Wigan town centre over the next few weeks as we all get ready for that most wonderful time of the year.
It starts with a bang on Wednesday November 5 when the ever-popular continental market returns to Wigan for a four day stint. Stalls selling unusual and beautiful gifts and exotic foods will be situated in Market Place and down Standishgate.
The big lights switch-on event will take place on Thursday November 20, with the Rock FM road show, entertainment and celebrity guests including Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic stars and Big Brother’s Luke Marsden. The event promises to be fun for all the family and is not to be missed and town centre bosses still have other celebrities to announce.
As the cold weather sweeps in, Saturday November 22 will give you an opportunity to at least warm your feet, with the chance to take part in a fire walk at Market Place. Professionals will be on hand to take you through your paces, helping you to focus your mind in time for attempting a real leap of faith.
On Sunday November 23, Father Christmas will be taking a break from his hectic schedule to take part in a Christmas parade. He is even bringing a couple of his reindeer with him. The parade begins at 1pm from Mesnes Park and will end at Market Place. It will be a perfect delight for the little ones!
When it comes to Christmas shopping problems, here’s something you can really get off your chest thanks to Grand Arcade lingerie retailer La Senza.
According the recent surveys, 70 per cent of women are wearing the wrong sized bra. So to help, La Senza will be brining its ‘Bra Bus’ to Standishgate from Friday November 28 until Sunday November 30.
Specialists from the shop will be offering free bra measuring and advice.
As December draws in, it is time to limber up those singing muscles! On Saturday December 13, there will be carol singing at Market Place and the following week (Saturday December 20) there will be a big Christmas sing-a-long. Watch this space for further information!
Wigan’s Town Centre Manager Mike Matthews says: “There is definitely something for everyone in Wigan Town Centre!
“We’ve got the traditional mixed with the modern and the exotic mixed with everything that’s good about Christmas at home.
“There are new things for people to try and as always there will be the warm Wigan welcome. We are really pleased about this year’s lights switch-on, which promises to be a fantastic event.
“The only thing that is missing is you. So get yourself along to Wigan town centre for a great Christmas.”
