Elderly woman robbed in broad daylight - Hindley
Thursday 14th August, 2008

An elderly woman was the victim of a street robbery that took place in broad daylight in Wigan.

At about 4.10pm on Tuesday 12 August 2008, the woman was walking along Ladies Lane in Hindley.

A white man approached her from behind on a pedal cycle and tried to grab her shopping bag.

The woman resisted and a struggle ensued, as a result of which she fell to the floor. The bag's handle had been ripped off.

The offender rode of with the bag.

He was wearing a grey hooded top at the time of the attack. There is no further description, and it is not known which direction he rode off in.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie said: "This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable woman. The offender stole from his victim, caused her to fall and made a swift escape on a bike.

"It was, however, an attack in broad daylight in a busy area. If anyone saw the attack, or a man matching our description around the area of Tesco's in Hindley, I would appeal to them to get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 1283 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
