Armed robbery - Pemberton
Friday 2nd May, 2008

Two men armed with knives and a shotgun have stolen a substantial amount of money from Lloyds TSB, Pemberton.

Shortly before 11.30am on Friday 2 May 2008, police received reports of two men armed with a large knife and a shotgun demanding money from cashiers at the bank on Ormskirk Road.

They left in a blue Renault Megane heading towards Lamber Head Industrial Estate. The number plates on the car had been covered.

The Megane was found a short time later on Worsley Street and has been removed for forensic examination. The car is believed to have been stolen from Latham Lane earlier in the day.

The men are described as quite tall between 5ft 9in and 6ft in height. They were both wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. They spoke with local accents and one was carrying a navy blue sports bag.

Detective Sergeant Gary Ashurst from Wigan CID said: "While there were no injuries, a number of people were threatened and left in fear of their lives.

"Anyone who can so easily point a knife or gun at someone needs to be caught and held accountable for their actions.

"If anyone has any information about this incident or about the vehicle used by the offenders after they left the Megane please get in touch."

If anyone has any information please contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 7248 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
