17 year boy injured in RTC - Ashton in Makerfield

A 17-year-old boy has been left with life threatening head injuries after a road collision in Ashton in Makefield, Wigan, last night, Wednesday 23 April 2008.

Shortly after 9.30pm, the boy was riding a friendís 125cc moped outside the Eagle and Child pub on Heath Road, when he lost control of the machine and fell off.

The boy suffered a serious head injury in the collision and was taken to Royal Albert Edward Infirmary at Wigan. He was later transferred to the Neurological Department at Hope Hospital, Salford, where his condition is currently described as serious.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The junctions of Mill Lane and Lincoln Drive at Ashton Heath were closed, but have now re-opened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Area 1 Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 7201.
